Who is Jayla's Voice?

Jayla’s Voice; Echoes of Addiction was founded in response to an unimaginable loss. On April 26, 2024,  Jayla Michelle at only 21 was loss to fentanyl poisoning. In the weeks that followed, our founders, Lakesha and Hammer Davis, discovered the silent battle their daughter faced with addiction and alcoholism, and were confronted with the devastating realities of the opioid epidemic. They missed all the signs. As they uncovered the rising overdose rates in their local community and the pervasive threat of fentanyl, there was no question to take action.

Motivated by Jayla, Jayla's Voice; was birthed to honor her memory and create change. As an organization, we are dedicated to supporting families affected by addiction, raising awareness about the opioid crisis, and equipping communities with lifesaving tools. Our initiatives include Naloxone education and distribution, along with knowledge of other resources. Echoes Unheard, a program that supports young people impacted by addiction with resources like sports registration, music lessons, tutoring, scholarship opportunities, giving them an opportunity to follow their dreams. And Mission 21, launching in 2025, focusing on fentanyl awareness, overdose prevention, family safety, and early detection of possible drug use through school and community-based initiatives.

At Jayla’s Voice, we strive to amplify Jayla's legacy and legacy of many others in order to prevent families from experiencing the heartbreak of addiction and alcoholism. We are the echoes of the voices stolen by overdose and addiction, transforming grief in to action and being a voice for hope and change.

Posthumous Performance

On August 31, 2024—Overdose Awareness Day—Jayla’s voice echoed powerfully through Wahoo stadium as she posthumously performed the National Anthem at the Pensacola Blue Wahoos game. Jayla passed away on April 26, 2024, but her voice continues to be a symbol of strength, creativity, and resilience in the fight against addiction.

We are deeply grateful to the Blue Wahoos for graciously welcoming Jayla’s Voice: Echoes of Addiction and allowing us to use their platform to raise awareness about the devastating impact of overdose in our community. This moment was more than a tribute—it was a call to action, reminding us all of the lives lost and the importance of prevention, education, and support.

We look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with the Blue Wahoos again this year as we continue raising awareness and building connections. We are especially hopeful about partnering through our Purple Pulse Project, uniting our efforts to educate, empower, and save lives.

Together, we can ensure that Jayla’s voice—and the voices of so many others—continue to echo with purpose in the fight against addiction.

Our Mission

We aim to prevent substance use disorder, support those affected, and challenge the stigma that prevents many from seeking help. Through education, advocacy, and community-driven programs, we strive to create a future where every dream is possible, every voice is heard and every life is valued

Our Vision

To create a supportive environment where every person battling substance use disorder, regardless of their circumstances, can overcome obstacles, find healing, and look forward to their future.

Our Founders

We are a husband and wife who share not only a deep love for our daughter, Jayla, but also a commitment to honoring her legacy in a way that saves lives and brings hope to others. Jayla was nurturing, creative, and full of life—a daughter who loved deeply and cared for others. But like so many, she faced silent battles that ultimately led to her passing from an overdose on April 26, 2024.

Losing Jayla shattered our world. It opened our eyes to the harsh reality of addiction, especially the kind that hides in silence and stigma. We learned too late about the struggles she faced, and it is a pain we wouldn’t wish on any parent. That pain became our purpose. We founded Jayla’s Voice: Echoes of Addiction to break the silence, raise awareness, and offer support to families and individuals who are fighting battles that often go unseen.

Our mission is rooted in education, prevention, and community support. Through initiatives like Mission21—focused on equipping schools and guardians with tools to recognize and intervene early—and Echoes Unheard, which uses data-driven strategies to address gaps in awareness and resources, we’re working to change the trajectory of overdose in our community.

We are committed to making a difference, not just in memory of Jayla, but for others who were stolen and for every life that can still be saved. Our hope is that through this work, no other family has to experience the heartbreak of learning too late.
