Alcohol
Awareness and Education
Why does Alcohol Awareness Matter?
Alcohol is one of the most commonly consumed substances in the world, but its misuse can lead to severe consequences for individuals, families, and communities. Many people are unaware that alcohol addiction can develop gradually, even from casual drinking habits. Additionally, alcohol is frequently misused alongside other substances, compounding its risks. Our goal is to educate and raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol misuse and addiction while offering support for healthier choices.
Alcohol Addiction, or Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), is a chronic disease characterized by an inability to control drinking despite negative consequences. It affects the brain’s reward system, leading to cravings and dependency.
Signs of
Alcohol Misuse and Addiction
The individual may appear disoriented, unable to maintain a coherent conversation, or unresponsive to external stimuli
Frequent or uncontrollable vomiting is a common response to excessive alcohol intake and can increase the risk of choking, especially if the person is unconscious
Alcohol poisoning can lead to convulsions or seizures due to its impact on the central nervous system
Breathing may become dangerously slow—fewer than eight breaths per minute—or exhibit irregularities, such as gaps of more than 10 seconds between breaths
The person’s skin might feel cold and clammy to the touch, and they may exhibit a bluish or pale complexion, indicating a drop in body temperature
The individual may pass out and be unresponsive to attempts to awaken them, a critical condition requiring immediate medical attention
Mixing alcohol with drugs can amplify the effects of both substances, leading to increased risk of overdose, impaired judgment, and severe health complications. Understanding these dangers is essential for making informed decisions.
